Podiatrists have to have a university degree and be registered with the Australian health practitioner Regulation agency (AHPRA). AHPRA and the Podiatry Board of Australia ensure podiatrists have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide you with safe and best care in accordance with best practice standards.Find out more and see our registration details here- www.ahpra.gov.au Do I need a referral?No you don’t require a referral to see a podiatrist. Some people are entitled to treatment through Medicare or department of VETERANs’ affairs (DVA) and will require a special referral from their GP- see below. Does Medicare cover Podiatry?Some people are eligible for a “chronic Disease MANAGEMENT Plan” (PREVIOUSLY known as an EPC- Enhanced Primary care plan) which entitles them to a rebate from medicare for podiatry services.You need to discuss with your GP if you are ELIGIBLE and get a special referral form for the Podiatrist. “A chronic condition is one that has been or is likely to be present for 6 months or longer, including but not limited to asthma, cancer, cardiovascular illness, diabetes mellitus, musculoskeletal conditions or stroke.” To find out more visit- www.medicareaust.com/HTML/MBS/MBSM12.htm Does Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) cover Podiatry?If you are a gold card holder and some white card holders are eligible for rebates through DVA. You will require a D904 referral from your GP.
